I recall my first days in ACN, trying to figure it all out. Struggling. Asking questions. Attending every training I could, but still with little success.
At that point in my ACN business, I kept having a difficult time gaining momentum. My business would start, then stop. I would take one step forward and two steps back. It seemed like I was running up an escalator that was going in the opposite direction.
Then one day, after 2 years in the business, I was invited to attend a RD training with ACN Co-founders Mr. Tony Cupisz and Mr. Greg Provenzano in Bakersfield, California. That training would have a profound effect on my life, as it changed my business and ultimately the direction of my life over the past 14 years.
I cannot imagine where I would be if I did not attend that training.
This is why I am a firm believer in never missing a training because you never know when a training will trigger something in you and it will all come together for you.
But on the fateful day in 2008, I learned two critical principles that, once implemented, had me go from RD to SVP in just over 18 months. Something I never imagined could happen.
Until that point, as I was struggling, I was feeling guilty about recruiting people, because it would seem as I recruited people, they would quit the business or disappear. I would blame myself for their failure. However, that weekend in 2008, Mr. Provenzano taught me a powerful lesson. He made sure I understood that I was not responsible for their success. He said: “We are responsible to them and not for them. We are responsible to create an environment where they can grow and win in our business, but their success or failure is on them.” In that moment, I was able to breathe and be excited about the business in a way I never was before. It was like a huge burden was lifted off of my shoulders!
Then a few hours later, Mr. Tony Cupisz gave me one of the most important business-building trainings I have ever received. He called it TAPROOTING. I had never heard the word before, but as he explained the concept, I suddenly understood how to create momentum, sustain momentum, and own my business in a way that success was truly all in my hands.
He taught us how to recruit one IBO, then from that IBO, right away get into their warm market to recruit another IBO, and then get into the warm market of the new IBO again and keep repeating the process! Instead of taking one IBO and spending weeks with them, he taught us how to move quickly, finding a new IBO from another IBO each day and to see how many levels we could do in 30 days. The more levels, the bigger the momentum, the more production and the bigger the paycheck.
After the event, Mr. Cupisz sent us home with an assignment — a ridiculous assignment. Could we do 20 levels in 30 days? That was the game.
I went home and got to work. I can honestly say it was one of the hardest periods I have ever worked in my life. I pushed myself harder than I ever have, some days with only 2-3 hours of sleep. I was going for it! Whatever it took. I wanted SVP.
Unfortunately, that first time, I didn’t quite make it. I did 20 levels in 33 days, not 30. But I learned so much about myself, about what I was committed to and what it took to be an SVP. And, I knew I could become successful in ACN. I really knew I could do it.
So the next month I went for it again, and this time I did it! Then after that, it became easier each time! It was like the floodgates had opened up in my mind. It was like Neo in “The Matrix.” It all made sense.
I couldn’t believe the momentum it created. So many new IBOs were joining the business that I couldn’t keep up with them all. This was a very good thing! The business was total chaos, but wow was it fun!
And, as I did that in leg after leg, leader after leader would emerge. I wasn’t trying to make anyone a leader, they just showed up! And, over time, it became clear who the leaders were. They would do presentations without me, they would qualify IBOs without me; in fact, I never really heard from them. They just figured it out! I was having so much fun!
And, 18 months later, I saw the three most amazing letters next to my name — SVP!! Wow!
Today, I try to teach this to a select group of our team’s RDs, who are brave enough, hungry enough, courageous enough, and committed enough to master Taprooting so they too can go SVP and enjoy the SVP lifestyle, while having the privilege of impacting people’s lives. As an example, over the past two weeks one of our RDs, Shiri Gabriel, taprooted 10 levels! She is going for the 20 levels in 30 days!
I know many of you will now probably want to try this game. So, I will tell you what Mr. Tony Cupisz taught me. First, go RD. That is the first step. Then you will need to arrange your life so that you can go for it. It takes something. It takes a lot. It’s not for everyone.
But for those of you willing to make the sacrifice, for as long as it takes to play and win the 20/30 game, on the other side awaits an amazing life that very few people get to experience: a life of time freedom, the joy of impacting lives and knowing that you have become the leader you always knew you could be.
